Description

You must have been serving apple pies for dessert already to your family and guests. Why not make baked cinnamon apples this time? It is so easy to prepare, yet you can have a rich-tasting dessert. This could be the next real thing to fresh apples as the shape of the fruit is preserved. They are a sight to behold and are great-tasting to suit every taste bud.

Ingredients

Scale

Cinnamon Apples:

3 medium firm, sweet apples

1 tbsp. of brown sugar

1/4 tsp. of ground cinnamon

Oat Topping:

8 tbsp. of unsalted butter

3/4 cup of all-purpose flour

3/4 cup of old-fashioned rolled oats

1/2 cup of brown sugar

1/4 tsp. of ground cinnamon

1/8 tsp. of kosher salt

For Serving:

Vanilla ice cream

Salted caramel sauce

Instructions

  1. PREPARE THE APPLES

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F. Using a non-stick cooking spray, lightly spray a baking dish that can fit 6 apple halves. Halve the apples and scoop out the core, seeds, and stem. Place the apple halves in the baking dish with the flesh facing up. Sprinkle 1 tbsp. of brown sugar and a ¼ tsp. of cinnamon over the apples.

2. MAKE THE TOPPING

Over medium heat, melt the butter in a pan. Remove the pan from the heat and stir the flour, brown sugar, oats, cinnamon, and salt into the melted butter. Evenly divide the topping between the apples, pressing it down lightly onto the apples.

3. BAKE THE APPLES

With aluminum foil, cover the pan and bake for 25 minutes. Uncover the apples then bake until the apples are soft and the topping has browned or approximately 20 -30 minutes.

4. TO FINISH

Serve as is. You can also serve it with a scoop of ice cream or a drizzle of caramel sauce. The apples can last for a week if you refrigerate them. You can simply reheat in a warm oven or in the microwave when serving.

Notes

  • To make your baked apples even healthier and gluten-free, substitute the all-purpose flour mix with your favorite gluten-free flour mix, almond or oat flour. The oats you use are labeled gluten-free. You can also add your favorite ingredients to the toppings.
